Wedding celebrant, Tweed Heads & Coolangatta

A full wedding at Tweed Heads or Coolangatta with Felicity Best is $950 midweek and $1,200 Friday to Sunday, half an hour from Murwillumbah and inside the included travel ring. Rainbow Bay, Greenmount and Point Danger are the usual sites, all council permitted. The border means you can choose the New South Wales or Queensland registry, which changes only the certificate fee.

Ceremonies on public beaches, reserves and parks usually need a permit, which you book and pay for directly with the council or land manager. The requirements and fees vary between councils and sites, and they are not included in the ceremony fee.

Which council books which site

North of Boundary Street is City of Gold Coast, and that takes in Rainbow Bay, Greenmount, Kirra, Snapper Rocks and the Coolangatta beachfront. South of it, including Jack Evans Boat Harbour and the Tweed Heads foreshore, is Tweed Shire. Point Danger sits on both, and which one you apply to depends on precisely where the ceremony stands.

Two systems, two forms, two fee schedules, and neither council will mention the other. Pick the spot on the ground first and confirm the council second. Booking a permit and then discovering the view you wanted is a hundred metres into the other shire is a solvable problem and an avoidable one.

The sites, compared

Rainbow Bay is the most booked and the easiest: parking close by, a short walk, Greenmount headland in the frame. Greenmount itself is higher, quieter and windier. Kirra is wide and long, which flatters a large group and exposes it to a north easterly. Snapper Rocks is spectacular and full of surfers from first light.

Point Danger is the one people come for, with a lookout, a border monument and ocean on three sides, and it is also a car park with a steady flow of visitors through it. It photographs better than it feels. For more than about twenty guests, one of the beaches below is usually the better ceremony and the lookout is where you go afterwards.

Questions

Questions people ask

Where do people marry in Coolangatta?
Rainbow Bay and Greenmount are the two most booked spots, both with a reliable backdrop and both needing a City of Gold Coast permit. Point Danger sits on the border above them. Kirra and Snapper Rocks are quieter, and the surf clubs along the strip are the standard wet weather plan.
Is a Tweed Heads celebrant cheaper than a Gold Coast one?
Usually. Gold Coast celebrant fees for a full midweek ceremony cluster $200 to $500 higher than mine, and a Murwillumbah base means no travel charge at Tweed Heads at all. The ceremony and the paperwork are identical either way, because the border is administrative rather than practical.
